Magnet Axiom 8.8: Chat threads in Exhibit Builder, Email threads in Email Explorer, and new artifacts from Samsung Cloud Backups

Our final Magnet Axiom release of 2024 is out now, adding several improvements to the features and capabilities of Axiom to help you advance your investigations as efficiently as possible.

This release of Axiom adds:

• Chat threads in Exhibit Builder: Easily include portions of chat threads in your Exhibit Builder reports to add clarity and context to messaging evidence
• View emails in threads in Email Explorer: Review emails in threads making it much easier to follow along with an email conversation
• Samsung Cloud Backup acquisition: Acquire Samsung Cloud Backups of multiple devices using known credentials of the account

In addition to new features and functionality, this release also includes new and updated artifact support to help keep your investigations current with the latest evidence sources.

Chat threads in Exhibit Builder

Every day, billions of messages are shared using text messaging and messaging services such as WhatsApp, WeChat, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and others.

To help you effectively capture message threads related to your cases, we have added the ability to include portions of chat threads in your Exhibit Builder reports. Messages exported to Exhibit Builder maintain the “chat bubble” view of the native applications helping you to easily include the context provided by the sequence of these messages in your reports. To include chat threads in your reports, select the applicable chat snippets in Axiom and they will be added to the Axiom case folder and automatically imported into Exhibit Builder when that case is loaded.

Introduced in the release of Axiom 7.10, Magnet Exhibit Builder combines forensic data from Axiom case files with standard word processing tools, allowing our customers to easily build comprehensive reports for a range of audiences. The intuitive drag-and-drop functionality will enable customers to place artifact details directly into a report, maintaining the integrity of the forensic data.

View emails in threads in Email Explorer

It’s estimated that 361.6 billion emails are sent and received daily. The sheer volume of emails requiring review in various investigations requires a solution that allows you to quickly locate responsive or malicious emails without having to sift through irrelevant content.

With this release, we’ve made it even easier to review large volumes of emails in Email Explorer by grouping them into threads. Viewing emails in context, as a conversation, makes reviewing more efficient and seamless, helping you to identify responsive content faster.

The following inbox types can be viewed as threads: 

• Outlook emails (Windows)
• Cloud Gmail messages
• Gmail emails (Android & iOS)

Threading in Email Explorer is an optional setting. You can choose to view emails individually if preferred.

Samsung Cloud Backup acquisition

New in this release, Samsung Cloud provides an integrated cloud backup solution to back up various data types on Samsung mobile devices, using known credentials of the account to acquire artifacts for: Messages, Call Logs, Connections, Contacts, Voice Recorder, and Calendar evidence. Samsung Cloud backups also provide backups for multiple devices associated with the cloud account and backups captured at certain dates.
